This website is a little different than other fitness websites. The focus here is not on extreme fitness or rapid weight loss methods, there are plenty of other sites that cover those topics. No offense to the other sites, but the focus and target audience for EllisFit is different.
The focus at EllisFit is on practical and sustainable fitness strategies to achieve permanent weight loss, better health, and increase quality of life. Of course the target audience is anyone trying to lose weight and live better, but the particular focus is on those that have struggled with losing weight and have a significant amount of weight to lose.
Practical Fitness for Large Bodies
Many fitness websites don’t seem to understand the challenges of living in a very big body. Either there’s a lack of understanding, or the strategy is to focus on people that are looking to “tone up” or “get ripped” or maybe lose 50 pounds or less. From a marketing perspective, it’s understandable. There’s much more people that need to lose less than 50 pounds than those that need to lose more, which makes it a bigger market for products or services.
However, the people with a bigger fitness challenge, those that need to lose more than 50 pounds, have more obstacles to deal with in the “getting fit” process. For example, flexibility, stamina, appetite, mental aspects, etc. for the bigger folks aren’t quite the same as for the smaller folks. A successful fitness strategy needs to account for these differences.
As a site that was created by a very large person, it’s VERY important that EllisFit put extra focus on the topics and needs of people with bodies on the heavier side of the scale.

Yes, being bigger does impact your life, in many ways. Most people are well aware of the health impacts but the quality of life also suffers.
For some people, just moving from place to place in a big body is challenging and sometimes very exhausting. The world just isn’t built for big people, or at least the products and services we use each day aren’t, which definitely adds to the difficulties of doing anything.
Furthermore, even the bigger folks that are on a weight loss path and becoming smaller, it’s typically a longer path (takes more time) before they reach their weight loss goal. So it takes longer before they can feel like they physically fit into the world around them. For some people, that journey may even take years.
It doesn’t matter how much weight we have to lose, we can’t simply put life on hold until we reach our goal weight. However, we can share tips and tricks that help make life a little easier along that journey.

So how does EllisFit understand the fitness and weight loss experience, especially for big people? Easy answer — EXPERIENCE!
The person that started this website is a big guy named Ellis (get it? Ellis + Fit = EllisFit), the website owner and administrator. Ellis has struggled with his weight for the majority of his life, with the problem peaking at weight of 496.4 pounds. A big dude, no doubt.
In 2016, Ellis decided to take his fitness seriously, which has resulted in a significant amount of weight loss through smarter choices, diet modification and exercise. His fitness journey is a life-long commitment with different focuses along the way. The focus for Ellis right now is to continue to lose weight, learn more about health and fitness, and enjoy life to the fullest.
One of the goals of this website is for Ellis to document and share his thoughts on what worked for him, what sort of worked, what didn’t work, and what he found to be a complete waste of time. He has lots of experience with the various battles of weight loss and has had many lessons learned (failures and successes) on his fitness journey. (About Ellis)

It’s important to realize that nobody here is a trained professional on dieting, weight loss or fitness. Furthermore, it’s also very important to realize what worked for one person may or may not work for someone else.
